A module is generally a measure or shape that serves as a model to be followed. It is an element or principle on which the compositional characteristics of a work of art are based. Today, a specific term is used to define the concept of module or modular sequence, and that is pattern. It means “arrangement” and is used to describe, depending on the context, a “design, model, scheme, or repetitive structure.” The composition of a pattern is created by multiplying and placing side by side many identical basic modules. With the Modular Sequences series, I explore the concept of arrangement, focusing in particular on the study of various elements seen under a microscope. In this way, I attempt to make something invisible to the human eye visible on an artistic level, while at the same time becoming an object of study for the creation of new forms. These, in turn, change into modular sequences which, when viewed in their entirety, become decoration.
