The Rubber Circles series stems from the study of Informal Art and Abstract Expressionism. The various plastics incorporated into the liquid rubber become gestures and expressive signs, creating a union between emotional intensity and anti-figurative art. This process allows me to work with specific materials, reinventing both their use and their aesthetics. In this artistic research, the choice of the circle as the basic shape for the pictorial support symbolizes the idea of continuous change in artistic styles. Furthermore, the Tondi gomma series also represents a denunciation of a highly polluting material found in the form of agglomerate, namely plastitar. This is tar from oil spills mixed with microplastics that are poured into the oceans around the world, a highly polluting mix that brings together two of the elements that most affect ocean ecosystems. The material joins a long list of pollutants, from pyroplastics (plastic that takes the form of rocks) to plastiglomerates (a combination of melted plastic with beach sediments and basaltic lava).
