Collage, literally “gluing,” is a figurative art process. It consists of gluing fragments of newspapers, photographs, wallpaper cutouts, and other materials onto a support in an apparently random manner. Over the years, as human ideas have changed, so too have the materials used, and now any material can be used in collage. Names and definitions have also changed, with the term “assemblage” now being used, but the original idea of collage remains at the heart of it all: the artist is free to express themselves without limits in terms of subject or material, forcing the observer to reflect. The Collage series, in addition to being based on the entire process required by the technique, is made exclusively from recycled and handmade paper. This is to encourage the reuse of a very important product, namely cellulose, which is obtained from the fibers of broad-leaved trees, conifers, and various other plants.
